How to water a plant in Leca
Watering a plant in Leca is a little different than watering a plant in soil. In this short guide, we'll go over how you can properly water your plants in Leca and make sure they get the fertilizer and moisture they need to thrive.

Watering a plant in Leca might sound a little complicated, but it's actually quite simple once you get the hang of it. One important thing to keep in mind is that different plants have different watering needs, so you need to take that into consideration when figuring out how often to water your plant in Leca. Generally, you can go longer between watering than you would with soil, but you still need to keep an eye on the moisture level.
When you've planted your plants in Leca, you'll usually have an inner pot with holes, as displayed in "How to clean your pots for use with Leca", and an outer pot that's watertight. Your plant with the Leca will sit in the inner pot with holes, while you pour the water in the outer pot. The Leca will absorb the moisture at the bottom of the pot and water your plants for you.
You might be wondering, but how do you water a plant in Leca properly? That's the question we're going to answer right now. Before watering, check if your Leca is still able to absorb water at the bottom of the pot. If this is the case, you can wait to water your plant a little bit longer. If the Leca is no longer able to absorb the water, it's time to prepare some water with hydroponics fertilizer.
Hydroponics fertilizer
The hydroponics fertilizer is there to feed your plant, as Leca doesn't provide your plant with any nutrients. Think of it like this: If you only drink water, you'll be hungry after a while. Just water won't give you the calories you need to live your life. It's the same for Leca and hydroponics fertilizer. Use the hydroponics fertilizer as described on the label, as using too much could make the water too acidic and too little won't feed your plant enough. There is a link below this post with a link to some great hydroponics fertilizer you could use with this. If you add this every time, you'll see a lot of growth during the growing period of your plant.
Picking the water level
Once you've got your water + hydroponics fertilizer mixture ready, you can pour it in the outer pot. Depending on the plant, make sure that the water level stays under the level where the roots are. Some plants don't like to have their roots in water all the time, but others do.
Once you've added enough water, so the Leca is able to absorb it, you're done and you can wait until the next time your plant needs to be watered.
